Chort was a creature of both human and goat features.
He lived in forests and swamps,not often seen near
human habitat and if so, he was only there to torment
people, bring illnesses, kill or capture children and flock.

His half man, half goat appearance and purely evil
character helped to turn him into a personification
of the devil after the christianisation of slavic realms.

Czart był postacią o cechach człowieka i kozła.
Zamieszkiwał on lasy i bagna, unikał sąsiedztwa
osad ludzkich, a kiedy je odwiedzał to po to tylko,
by dręczyć ich mieszkańców, zsyłać choroby,
zabijać trzodę i porywać dzieci.

Jego utrwalona w pospolitej wyobraźni aparycja,
a także ewidentnie złośliwy charakter przyczyniły
się do tego, że słowo czart stało się tożsame
z postacią diabła po chrystianizacji słowiańszczyzny.
